Official Faction Name: The Revisionists

Alternate Names: Utopians, Old-Timers, Originals, The Big Two (with OTL)

Faction Philosophy: Though all documentation from early in the Revisionists’ career has been lost, the stories say that the first time-traveler was a Revisionist. In the Original Timeline (or OTL, not to be confused with the group of same name, also known as Tick Zero), the world was falling apart. Human misery ran rampant, and the Earth itself was dying – and humanity had neither the technology nor the inclination to escape into space. However, one man, known as Alpha, was obsessed with fixing the world, and realized that things had gone too far – so he brought together a group of the most brilliant minds alive and developed the first Travel technology. His first change, long lost, took metatime from Tick 0 to Tick 1, and changed everything forever.

The Revisionists see themselves as descendants of Alpha, taking on a most sacred duty – duty to God, to humanity’s potential, or to themselves, depending on their interpretation of the Revisionist precepts. This mission is to transform history into its most perfect possible creation – utopia for all humanity for all of time (or as much as can be achieved). At this time – and only at this time – will time-travel technology be destroyed, so that no further changes can be made to upset the Revisionists’ careful work. Their tactics vary, as most Revisionist scholars believe that a balance between technology and philosophical maturity must be struck in order to find a self-sustaining utopia – but most changes focus on presenting a new idea or technology at the right point in the timeline to create the greatest and most beneficial change.

Base of Operations: The Revisionists keep a space station situated approximately 1,000,000 AT, hardened against the flux of random particles that are all that exist in the universe. This space-time was carefully chosen so that no change that either faction makes could possibly wipe the Station from history – as going back any further into the past is impossibly dangerous due to hard radiation. However, this does mean that the Revisionists periodically must move the entire Station back into the past again and overwrite themselves, to ensure that they don’t travel too far forward. Additionally, since OTL HQ is also at the same temporal, if not spatial, coordinates, they must occasionally fend off space-based attacks from said faction.

Spheres of Influence/Operation: The Revisionists operate anywhere and everywhere, as the most powerful of all Traveler factions (except perhaps OTL). In practice, their operational limits are from about 6000 H – the rise of early civilizations in most timelines – and 20,000 H, by which point humanity has nearly always wiped itself out.

Allies and Enemies: The Revisionists’ main relationship is an antagonistic one, with OTL. OTL’s goal of recreating the original timeline is diametrically opposed to that of the Revisionists, and so each group spends much of its time foiling the plans of the other. OTL is viewed as an upstart, a young, unwise group of ruffians who are worshiping a timeline that they would themselves hate. The Hedonists, Messiahs, and Racketeers are all seen as minor inconveniences, unlikely to cause problems but representing reprehensible opinions. The Archivists are seen as a valuable resource, and the Revisionists wish they were part of the Revisionist organization instead of separate. Freelancers, the Free Market, and the Shelter are all seen as useful, to be tolerated by and large (though Freelancers are looked down on severely for not having the guts to choose a side). Green Time, the Machinists, and the Span are all seen as second only to OTL in their danger, and the Revisionists spend a fair amount of time foiling their schemes – though they also believe that they are, for the most part, made up of incompetents. Finally, the Timelost are a fertile recruiting ground for the Revisionists, and are courted extensively.

Faction Aspect: The Revisionists are a large group, with varied reasons for joining the cause. Most believe in Utopia, and take a Faction Aspect like “A Perfect World is Just Ahead” or “Idealistic Utopian.” Others are more motivated by regret, taking the idea of changing the past to heart. Their Faction Aspect is similar to “It’s Never Too Late To Change” or “Regretful Revisionist.” Some believe in changing the world for the better, though not in Utopia, and they take a Faction Aspect like “I Can Make Things Better” or “Utopia is a Pipe Dream.” Some Revisionists fall right in line with the Faction’s intense rules and regulations, taking a Faction Aspect like “Rule-Obsessed Revisionist” or “Knows the Revisionist Directives By Heart.” Finally, some are motivated by hatred for their enemy, OTL, whether because of suffering at OTL hands or because they used to be on the other side before a change of heart. These Revisionists take a Faction Aspect like “Psychologically Scarred OTL Hater” or “Branded a Traitor by OTL.”
